In Baptism we are called to follow Christ. Each year we renew our promises at Easter. This is our Christian vocation. |

Consecrated Life is a deepening of our Baptismal Promises. The Vows bear witness to the world that the Kingdom of God is present among us even now. |

There is no type of person who is called to Carmel and each one's story is unique. Often however, the who is greeted by "You?!" when telling friends and relatives of our decision. God has a great sense of humor! While there is no type, there is one common factor. . .each person has been siezed by God. Seized is a strong word, yet it graphically depicts what happens when we have been grasped by Christ. God freely gives this gift and, in order to be true to ourselves, the only free response we can give is the total gift of ourselves. We are here because no other life would make sense for us. We are seized and our love is transformed into service for the Kingdom of God. Every Carmelite resonates with the words of our spiritual father, the prophet Elijah, when he declares, With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of Hosts! |
