Fix your eyes
on him alone
for in him
I have revealed all
and in him
you will find more
 than you could ever
 ask for or desire.

Scripture has many examples of God calling individuals. They, like us, had the freedom to say 'yes' or 'no' to that invitation.

Old Testament

1 Kings 19: 16; 19-21

"Go, take the road back to the desert near Damascus," the LORD said to him." When you arrive, you shall anoint . . .Elisha, son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, as prophet to succeed you.

Elijah set out, and came upon Elisha, son of Shaphat, as he was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen;he was following the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak over him.
Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, "Please, let me kiss my father and mother good-bye, and I will follow you." "Go back!" Elijah answered. "Have I done anything to you?"
Elisha left him and, taking the yoke of oxen, slaughtered them; he used the plowing equipment for fuel to boil their flesh, and gave it to his people to eat. Then he left and followed Elijah as his attendant.

New Testament

Luke 18-18-23

An official asked him this question, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus answered him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.
You know the commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall
not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother.'"
And he replied, "All of these I have observed from my youth."
When Jesus heard this he said to him, "There is still one thing left for you: sell all that you
have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come, follow
me. But when he heard this he became quite sad, for he was very rich.
